The Virginia Federation of Woman's Clubs joined the General Federation of Woman's Clubs in 1910. Alice Sunspaugh Kyle, president of the Woman's Club of Lynchburg, is remembered as the "mother" of the Federation and is affectionately referred to as "Mother Kyle".
The Woman's Club of Appomattox was organized September 19,1952, with Mrs. Joel Flood as the first president. The club joined the Virginia Federation of Woman's Clubs (VFWC), Alice Kyle District, and the General Federation of Woman's Clubs (GFWC) on October 24, 1952.
The object of our organization is to promote civic, educational, cultural and social interests and to be ready at all times to cooperate in any progressive course that vitally affects the community. For the past 60 years, we have been able to achieve our objective by active participation of our members and also by monetary support made possible by our fund raising projects.
Our meetings are held once a month from September through May. Dues are $40 annually. Prospective members are invited to attend a meeting and may be admitted into the club in any given month.
